Mini Mackinac

Mini Mackinac is a tiny ongoing art pop-up born out of my love of Miniatures and Mackinac Island.

The idea came to me in 2020, several months into the pandemic. I had known of a similar DC-based miniature project by a friend and co-worker called Tiny Fellas. I instantly knew i wanted to bring something similar to Mackinac, and with the blessings from Tiny Fellas, Mini Mackinac was born.

Mini Mackinac helped spread joy during a time when it was needed most.

Art Direction / Photography

I wanted to create something for Mackinac that would celebrate its unique nature and make people smile.

I obtained my little people thanks to eBay, I mainly used Preiser H0 scaled model train figurines, they were affordable and offered an array of fun scenarios. I chose figurines that were distinct “Mackinac”: biking, horseback riding, swimming, golfing, weddings, and more.

I created a logo, a photography style, and an Instagram account for these precious little people to live. After thorough and thoughtful location scouting, I would set out with my bag of minis and some glue and compose my scenes. I even enlisted my partner for his creative writing skills to help draft the captions.

Mini Mackinac is a passion project I hope to continue. Seeing the positive engagement from the community both online and in real life is especially heartwarming and only makes me want to keep spreading the joy.
